The interior thinking of Maigret is very well portrayed and that links the reader to the protagonist. The pace is good, as are the frequent breaks to enjoy a white wine or beer in Brasserie Dauphine. George Simenon's Maigret stories are probably the best known part of his opus which was considerable. He wrote around 70 Maigret stories and I believe nearly novels making him one of the most prolific writers in the form. This particular story attracted my attention because of a television adaptation. It comes from the centre of Simenon's. It feels like a British police drama set in Paris.
